The 6 Golden Rules Of Working Out

by Adrian Nita

I am sure that you have seen thousands of workout books, programs, promises, and “miracles.” But how do these things work, if they are even true?

I think that at least once a week, I see some chiseled dude on TV telling me the next “secret” to weight loss in some horse pill that we all know he has never even taken.

So what exactly is going on?  Is everyone just trying to make a quick buck off of you and laughing all the way to the bank because they tricked you into a scam? Maybe.

But there are some ways that you can ensure that you WILL get results from the workouts that you do, even if they are just from your home with a couple of pieces of equipment.

I’ll admit beforehand, it isn’t flashy, or easy (actually it’s really difficult), or even quick, but it’s possible.  So if you stick with me and hear me out, I can guarantee that you will be able to reach those weight loss goals that you have been striving for and maybe even surprise yourself.

It all comes down to these five golden rules: (It’s not rocket science, but it’s harder said than done) Intensity, staying with it, doing it right, Knowing your strategy, and resisting temptation.

Intensity

Working Out intensity

I’ll admit, intensity can be a hard thing to come by…especially when you are at home and working out all by your lonesome.

The thing is, intensity is also the game changer when you want real results (especially fast results).  When you watch a sports game, how can you tell which team wants the victory more than the other?

It’s the one with the most drive, the most intensity.  So how does that translate to the living room when you are doing your daily workout?  Well, how badly do you want to lose weight?

I know it’s not that easy, but when you want to lose weight badly enough, you find ways of raising the intensity.  There are a few ways or tips that can also help in this area.  One thing is listening to music.

I cannot get a good workout in if I am not listening to any music.  The difference is astounding, and if you have never tried this, I strongly suggest it.  The next idea is finding some competition to go up against.  You can do this by using our website!

Through the forums, through Facebook, and through the created workouts, you can get to know others that are in the same shoes you are and create a little rivalry between yourselves as well as encourage each other to reach your goals.

Another person’s encouragement goes a long way when trying to do something that is seemingly impossible at the time.  So don’t be afraid to look for that accountability partner to cheer you on and push you through. I promise you will be glad you did.

Sticking With It

Working Out sticking

Like anything else in life, this can be the hardest truth to live by.  How many of us like to stick to something that is difficult and sometimes even monotonous? (I’m not raising my hand right now.)

But, this is exactly how you can stand out from the pack.  Very few are willing not only to put in the hard work but to put the hard work in daily for a long period of time.  I can promise you that if you can do that, you can conquer any goal that you set your mind to.

Determination plays a large role in this, which means that you have to find a purpose for working out that is greater than your purpose for not working out.

Otherwise, sticking it out becomes an impossibility and a frustration.  An actionable tip for this would be to think about the three greatest reasons why you want to work out and get fit.

If these reasons are truly greater than the donut that is waiting for you at Krispy Kreme, then sticking it out becomes much easier.  Another way to increase your chances of survival is to repeatedly tell yourself these truths that you have just written down and also tell them to others on a consistent basis.

This way, you and everyone else know your goals and why you hold them. So your friends will be less likely to make you trip up on a regular basis.

Doing It Right

Working Out reps

I cannot tell you how many people I have seen in the gym that cheat on every single rep they perform.

I understand that as humans, we face many pressures from those around us to look like we have it figured out and that we are the strongest and best there is.

This is especially true of males. (That includes me)  Not only do the guys want to impress the girls that are running on the treadmills and watching them, but they also want to show the other males that they are the alpha male.

So, they decide to put 300 pounds on the bench press and then proceed to bring it a quarter of the way down about three times before coming back up and looking to see who was impressed at their great feat.

The truth is the strongest men in the gym started by lifting small amounts of weight that they could easily handle and made sure that they were doing it correctly.  This then allowed their muscles to grow correctly and fully so that they could add more weight each week. This same principle goes for you girls too.

You usually don’t do it correctly for different reasons, though.  Usually, girls just don’t care enough to do it the right way.

I personally don’t understand this concept, though. After all, you might as well use that hour to watch Gilmore Girls instead of working out because you are NOT helping your bodies at all.  Do it right and do it all the way, and you will instantly see better results.

Knowing Your Strategy

Working Out gym bag

This is something that I often struggled with when I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle.  Too often, I thought I would just go to the gym and then decide on each exercise at the moment.

This also went with my diet…I would make a case-by-case decision each time that I sat down to eat.  Let me ask you a question:

Do you make the most important decisions of your life in the moment? Like getting married, changing jobs, or buying a house?

Usually not.  So why should the treatment of your body be any different?

In order to get the best bang for your buck, you have to know what you are going to do, when you are going to do it, and why you are going to do it.

These three important elements will help you to stay on track and keep you focused on the goals at hand.

Get regular deep tissue massage

deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massages are more effective at relieving chronic muscle tension than a basic massage. They are the best way to eliminate muscle pain or soreness.

You may have to schedule regular deep tissue massages with a specialist if your muscles are especially tense or you have tried everything else, including medication and physical therapy, without success.

When you do the same workout routine for a long time, your body may come to rely more on certain muscles and joints rather than using a variety of muscles during an exercise. So when you change your fitness plan, it forces your body to use different muscle groups. This also helps you become more flexible. Furthermore, when you do new exercises, you use fresh muscle fibers. This is an important step in achieving your fitness goals.

Many people ask how often should you have a deep tissue massage? There are no specific guidelines. You can have one once a month or once every few months, depending on the state of your muscles. Regardless, if you are consistent with your workouts, you should be getting a deep tissue massage at least every 3-4 months to relieve tension and stay on top of muscle soreness.

Deep tissue massage is more effective at relieving chronic muscle tension than a basic massage. They are the best way to eliminate muscle pain or soreness. This type of massage takes 60–90 minutes to complete and is done by a therapist with stronger pressure. Regular deep tissue massage can help you achieve a deeper, fitter body.

Resisting Temptation

Working Out temptation

I am a Christian, but this is not about sinning.  Resisting temptation means that there will always be challenges and competing desires that can easily derail you.

If you let the gas up on your focus for even a moment, you can get lost in the place from which you came.  This is a very scary thing because it is easy to do and difficult to escape.

The good news is that there is a solution to this.  It isn’t a perfect one, but it’s a good one.  You need people around you that encourage you and that aren’t afraid to tell you what you need to hear at the right times.

People that you can trust and that you believe have your best interests in mind.  This step should be recognized before any of the other rules are followed so that you can have a solid foundation to work with.

Final Words – Start Working Out

So, remember:  Be intense and give it your best.  Stick with it and let your goals known so that you have a purpose behind the madness.  Do it right!

Don’t waste your time trying to impress others or just not caring enough.  Know your strategy.  Your body is important, and you owe your focus and planning to it.

Lastly, resist the temptation to fall back into your bad habits by counting on a friend to keep you in check.  If you can put these into practice, you will be well on your way to a better body!
